What’s the best way to transition a shelter cat to a multi-pet home?
I adopted a lovely senior cat, and I already have a younger dog at home. I want them to co-exist peacefully. How do I make this adjustment smooth for everyone involved?

Sign in to commentAs someone with a little bit of knowledge in animal behaviour, the best approach is a 3-stage introduction:
Scent introduction (swap toys, bedding)
Barrier interaction (e.g., cracked door or baby gate)
Controlled meetings (dog leashed, cat free to leave)
Keep sessions short and positive. And monitor body language. If either animal seems stressed, back up a stage.
