Does my cat have a girlfriend?
So lately, my boy cat, has been acting... different. Every evening around the same time, he starts pacing by the front door, meowing like he needs to go out. I didn’t think much of it at first—maybe he just wanted some fresh air. But then I noticed the neighbor’s black-and-white cat always hanging around when he’s out.
They’ll touch noses, circle each other, and then run off like they’ve got a secret life I’m not part of. He’s been neutered, and I’m 99% sure she’s spayed too, so I don’t think it’s that kind of romance—but it’s giving “secret lovers” energy.
Is it possible for cats to form friendships like this? Or am I watching some feline soap opera unfold on my lawn? Should I just let him keep meeting up with her, or am I encouraging something weird here?

Sign in to commentMy cat used to wait by the garden gate every morning for his bestie, a cat from a few houses down. They just sit silently like old men enjoying the weather. I think cats form little friendships.
Oh wow, this made me smile because my late boy cat had a similar “friendship” with another cat across the road. They sit together in the garden, groom each other, and sometimes nap side by side under the hedge. Both were fixed, too, so it wasn’t mating. But cats can form bonds with others, especially if they are outdoor explorers who meet regularly. It’s like they pick a “neighbourhood buddy” they vibe with. As long as neither cat is aggressive or territorial, I don’t think there is anything to worry about. Honestly, it sounds adorable.
