With a dog, I’d always be worrying about finding a pet sitter or boarding them when I went on trips. But my cat, Oliver, is fine being home alone for a couple of days as long as he has food, water, and a clean litter box. If I’m gone longer, a friend can easily pop in to check on him. Owning a cat gives me the freedom to travel without the guilt of leaving a needy pet behind.
I work long hours, and coming home to a dog that had been waiting all day for a walk used to make me feel guilty. My cat, on the other hand, is independent. She naps, entertains herself, and doesn’t need constant attention. But when I get home, she still greets me at the door—just in a cool, nonchalant way that says, “Oh, you’re back? Took you long enough.”
With my dog, I had to schedule walks, vet check-ups, and grooming sessions. My cat? She handles her own grooming, uses the litter box, and doesn’t need me to wake up at 6 AM to take her outside.
I also love how cats know when you need comfort. Whenever I had a rough day, my cat seemed to sense it. She’d come sit next to me, not demanding attention but just being there. Her slow blinks, gentle headbutts, and soft purring instantly melted away my stress.
I still love dogs but after living with a cat, I realized they’re the perfect mix of affectionate, low-maintenance, and endlessly amusing.
Cats are cheaper to feed and care for. Additionally, they provide excellent emotional support, as studies show that cats help reduce stress and anxiety.
In my opinion, cats are easier to manage and do not make a mess
I’ve had dogs, birds, and rabbits, but my cat is the easiest pet I’ve ever owned. No early morning walks, no loud barking—just a soft purr and a warm companion!
