Burned out while traveling... turns out location doesn't fix exhaustion
I thought escaping the UK and working from tropical locations would cure my burnout.
Spoiler: it didn't.
Turns out burnout isn't about where you are, it's about how much you're working and how little you're resting. I was still doing 50-hour weeks, still answering emails at all hours, still saying yes to every project because I was freelance and worried about money.
Just doing it from Bali instead of Birmingham.
The novelty of new locations wore off. My laptop became a symbol of stress instead of freedom. I was in incredible places, but too exhausted to enjoy them properly. My digital nomad dream became just another form of grinding. I had to actually stop.
Took two weeks completely off (terrifying for a freelancer), established work hours, learned to say no to projects, and set boundaries with clients. Only then did the location independence become enjoyable again.
Has anyone else experienced nomad burnout, or managed to avoid it entirely?
