The parrot who fooled the pizza guy

Lola, a cheeky green Amazon parrot, had mastered two phrases: “Hello! Come in!” and “That’ll be £20, mate!” One evening, her owner Mark ordered pizza. He stepped into the kitchen while waiting.

Moments later, he heard the door open, then footsteps. He rushed back, startled to see the pizza guy standing in the hallway, confused and holding a receipt. “She said to come in and told me the price,” the man stammered. “She sounded real!” Mark burst out laughing. “That was Lola.”

From that day, he stuck a sign on the door: “If you hear a woman’s voice, it’s my parrot. Please knock!” Lola still tries to run the house, and sometimes gets an extra breadstick for her efforts.
