Partner wants me to keep my cat locked in her room when she comes over

So here’s the dilemma. I’ve been dating someone for a few months now, and things have been going really well, except for one issue: they don’t like cats.

I’ve had my cat for almost three years now. She’s sweet, super clingy, and honestly, she’s my little shadow around the house. Now that my partner has started staying over more often, they have asked me to keep my cat locked in her room whenever they come by, especially overnight.

I tried it once for just 10 minutes, and she started meowing nonstop, scratching the door, clearly confused and distressed. She’s used to having the whole house to herself when I’m at work, and she’s well-behaved, too. I just can’t shake off the guilt of confining her like that, especially when she doesn’t understand why.

Has anyone else been in this kind of situation? Will this affect her mental health long-term? How do you balance a partner's comfort and your pet’s well-being? I could really use some advice.

I mean this gently, but anyone who loves you should try to at least tolerate the things and beings you love. If they can’t do that, what does that say about how they’ll respond to future compromises.
