Other PetsHow to teach your parrot to step up without drama
“Step up” is one of the most useful commands for any parrot. It makes handling easier and builds trust. To teach it, hold a perch or your hand close to their chest. Say “step up” clearly. Gently press just below their chest—they’ll lift one foot naturally. Reward with praise or a treat. Don’t force it. If they hesitate, wait. Keep practicing in calm moments. Once they master this, vet visits, cage cleaning, and bonding become much smoother.
