How to stop your dog from jumping on guests (without yelling!)

Dogs jump because they’re excited, it’s their version of a bear hug. But not everyone loves muddy paws on their chest. The trick? Ignore the jump. No eye contact. No words.

Wait until your dog calms down, then reward the calm. Teach an alternate behavior like “sit” or “place.” Reward that instead.

Over time, your dog learns that paws on the floor equals praise, jumping, not so much. Be patient. They’re not being bad, they’re just excited to see you!

Such a smart approach! Redirecting excitement instead of scolding helps build better habits without stress, for both the dog and the guests. Consistency is key, and those calm greetings will soon become the new norm. Love this positive training mindset!
