What you shouldn't feed your horse
Horses may be big and strong, but their digestive systems are surprisingly sensitive! Feeding them the wrong foods can lead to serious health issues like colic, laminitis, or even poisoning. Here are a few things you should never feed your horse:
1. Chocolate & Caffeine – Contains theobromine, which is toxic to horses.
2. Bread & Processed Foods – Difficult to digest and can cause blockages in their digestive system
3. Meat – Horses are herbivores; their system isn’t designed for animal proteins.
4. Avocados – The persin in avocados is poisonous to horses.
5. Potatoes & Tomatoes – These are part of the nightshade family, they contain alkaloids, which can be toxic to horses
6. Lawn Clippings – They ferment quickly and can cause colic.
7. Moldy or Spoiled Hay/Grain – Can lead to serious digestive issues.
Keeping your horse’s diet natural, fresh, and horse-friendly is key to their health and happiness!
