The £5,000 vet bill that changed my mind about dog insurance
I used to think, “I’ll just pay for vet visits as they come.” That was my mindset—until I got hit with a £5,000 bill I wasn’t prepared for.
My French Bulldog, Charlie, started having breathing problems one night. I thought it was just a temporary issue, but it got worse. The vet diagnosed him with brachycephalic obstructive airway syndrome (BOAS), something common in Bulldogs, and said he needed surgery to help him breathe properly. I was in shock at the cost.
I didn’t have insurance. I scrambled to figure out how to pay, maxed out my credit card, and drained my savings. It was a stressful time, and I promised myself I’d never be in that position again.
Now, I pay a small monthly premium for dog insurance, and I sleep better knowing I’ll never have to choose between my dog’s health and my finances again.
Have you ever had a vet bill that made you rethink pet insurance?
