Not-So-Cuddly Clover
From the first day I got Clover, she made it very clear that affection was on her terms only. If I tried to pet her uninvited, she’d dramatically thump and hop away, flicking her feet in disgust like I had personally offended her. Attempts at picking her up? Forget it. The one time I tried, she kicked so hard I nearly dropped her—and then she sulked under the sofa for an hour, glaring at me like I’d committed a crime.
And the chewing. Oh, the chewing. I rabbit-proofed everything (or so I thought), yet she still managed to find new things to destroy.
Despite all this, Clover lives like a queen. She is free to roam, well fed on a diet that probably costs more than mine, and more enrichment toys than she even bothers with. And yet? She still hates me. Six years of luxury, and the only time she shows affection is when I have food.
People think rabbits are easy, low-maintenance pets. They’re not. They need space, attention, and patience. Even then, there’s no guarantee they’ll love you back. But, despite her diva attitude, I wouldn’t trade Clover for anything. She’s stubborn, chaotic, and a little bit mean… but she’s my little gremlin.
I just wish she’d let me pet her once in a while.
