Do Cats Remember Their Past

Sometimes I wonder if Mika remembers life before she found me. Does she think about the streets? The hunger? The cold nights? Or has she erased all of that now that she has warm blankets and endless food?

She still hides when she hears loud noises. She still flinches if someone moves too fast. But she trusts me now. And I like to think that, if she does remember, she knows she’ll never have to go through that again.

Yes, they remember. But more importantly they recognize when they are safe.

Sometimes, I wonder about my cat's past. Did he have a home before that? Was he always loved, or did he know hunger and cold? he has little habits that make me think she’s had to fend for herself before. Maybe I’ll never know his full story, but I do know one thing—he’ll never have to worry about survival again.
