My cat's litter tray situation is slowly destroying my will to live

I clean it daily. Sometimes twice daily. It still smells. The litter tracks everywhere. I've tried different litters, different trays, and different locations. Nothing solves it. I'm tired of living in a flat that smells faintly of cat toilet no matter what I do. Can anyone suggest what works for litter smell and tracking?
