Why I’ll never go without dog insurance again
A few years ago, I thought dog insurance was a waste of money. My dog, Ted, was young and healthy, why pay monthly for something I might never use? I figured I’d just save money for emergencies instead.
Then, one winter morning, Ted slipped on ice during a walk and started limping. I took him to the vet, thinking it was just a minor injury, but the vet’s face told me otherwise. He had torn a ligament and needed surgery. The cost? Nearly £2,800. I panicked. I hadn’t saved nearly enough.
But then I remembered, I had finally signed up for dog insurance six months earlier after hearing a friend’s horror story about vet bills. I called my provider, and they confirmed that most of the surgery and rehab costs would be covered. Instead of draining my savings, I paid a manageable amount and focused on helping Ted heal.
That was the moment I realized pet insurance wasn’t just about saving money, it was about making sure my dog got the care he needed, no matter what. Now, I tell every dog owner I meet: don’t wait until it’s too late.
Do you have pet insurance? If not, what’s stopping you?
