My Horse Outsmarted Me
I always thought I was the clever one. After all, I’m the human and he’s the horse. But Cameron never ceases to amaze me.
It was a sunny Saturday, and I decided it was the perfect day for a ride. As I approached the stable, there stood Cameron, eyes twinkling, and suspiciously clean for someone who usually rolled in the mud before I arrived. That should’ve been my first clue, knowing how naughty he can be. I saddled him up, and we trotted out to the field.
About ten minutes in, he suddenly stopped. Something was up. Before I could react, he spun around and bolted back toward the stable, straight to where I’d left a half-eaten bag of carrots in my tack box. He skidded to a halt, turned his head, and looked at me with the most satisfied expression I’ve ever seen on him.
Turns out, he had smelled those carrots the second I arrived. The entire ride? A clever ploy to make me feel in charge before making his grand escape. He got the carrots.
I got the lesson: never underestimate a smart horse with a good nose.
