What daily dog walks taught me (and my dog)

I used to think dog walking was just about exercise. A leash, a route, 30 minutes, done. But over time, those walks became something much more.

Every morning, my dog waits by the door, tail wagging, leash in his mouth. It doesn’t matter if it’s sunny, rainy, or freezing, he’s ready. And now, so am I.

On our walks, we’ve explored parts of our neighbourhood I’d never noticed. We’ve met other dog parents, shared stories, and made a few “dog park friends.” But the real change? It’s in us.

He has become more confident and calm. He sniffs, observes, and even obeys commands better because of the consistency.

And me? I’ve learned to slow down. To be present. To enjoy the rhythm of paws on pavement and the quiet moments in between.

It’s not just “walks” anymore. It’s bonding time. It’s mental stimulation. It’s love, on a leash.
