Does your dog have any fears? How do you help them?

My dog has this intense fear of loud noises, especially thunderstorms and fireworks. The moment he hears a rumble, he starts pacing, panting, and hiding under the bed. It breaks my heart because I can tell he’s genuinely scared, and I don’t always know how to help him feel safe.

I’ve tried calming music, turning on the TV, and even those thunder shirts, but nothing seems to fully ease his anxiety. Sometimes I just sit with him and try to stay calm, but I wish I could do more.

Does your dog have any fears like this? What’s worked for you when they’re feeling overwhelmed or anxious? I’m open to trying anything to help him feel more secure.

My dog gets super anxious during thunderstorms too. What’s helped us is creating a cozy “safe zone” with his favorite blankets and toys in a quiet room where the noise is a bit muffled. I also use a calming diffuser with pheromones—kind of like doggy aromatherapy—which seems to soothe him a bit. Sitting with him and staying calm definitely makes a difference; dogs really pick up on our energy. Have you ever tried a weighted blanket designed for dogs? It’s similar to the thunder shirt but some pups respond better to that gentle pressure. Also, sometimes a distraction like a long-lasting chew or puzzle toy can help redirect their focus. It’s tough but you’re doing great just being there for him. What’s your dog’s name?
