How did you potty-train your dog? Any tips?

I’ve been trying to potty-train my pup for weeks, and honestly, I’m feeling stuck. I take him out regularly, after meals, naps, and play, but somehow, he still has accidents inside. Sometimes he even pees right after we come back in, and it’s driving me a little crazy.

I use treats and praise when he gets it right, but I’m starting to wonder if I’m missing something. Is it the timing? The routine? Or just part of the process?

How did you potty-train your dog successfully? Any tips or things I should avoid? I’m open to any advice because I really want to get this right, for both of us.

I totally get how frustrating potty training can be! What helped me was sticking to a super consistent schedule—taking my pup out right after meals, naps, and playtime every day without fail. I also learned to watch for the little signs like sniffing or circling and get them outside immediately. Treats and lots of praise right after they go helped a ton too. One big thing: when I couldn’t watch closely, I used a crate so my dog wouldn’t have accidents indoors. And definitely clean any messes with an enzymatic cleaner so they don’t keep going back to the same spot. Hang in there, it takes time but consistency and patience really pay off! How old is your pup? Sometimes that makes a difference in how quickly they learn.
