What is single-trip travel insurance?

A single-trip insurance is a policy that covers you for a single trip, it usually takes effect from the date of your departure and ends upon your arrival back in the country. Our single-trip travel insurance provides cover for up to 120days. This type of insurance is ideal for those who do not travel often or if you have a specific trip like travelling for a wedding or for business.

Single trip insurance is different from an annual multi-trip insurance because it is tailored to a particular trip, allowing you to choose the exact date, destination and the level of coverage you desire. For those who seldom travel, this is cheaper and more effective.

Why you need travel insurance?

Unexpected events can disrupt even the best-planned trips, which is why travel insurance is essential. Medical emergencies abroad can be extremely costly, especially in countries like the US or parts of Asia, but travel insurance covers emergency treatment and repatriation. It also protects you if you need to cancel or reschedule your trip due to illness, family emergencies, or other unforeseen circumstances, helping you recover non-refundable flight and accommodation costs. Travel insurance covers disruptions such as flight delays, missed departures, and cancellations, as well as loss, theft, or damage to personal belongings like luggage or passports. Personal liability cover applies if you accidentally injure someone or damage property while travelling. For those travelling once in a 12-month period, single-trip insurance is a cost-effective option, and having the right cover gives you peace of mind to enjoy your trip without worry.

How long does single travel insurance cover me

Single-trip travel insurance covers you for one specific holiday or journey, from the day your trip starts until the day you return home. The policy applies only for the full duration of that single trip, including both outbound and return dates.

It all depends on the kind of trip you are making and your destination. According to the British Insurance Brokers Association (BIBA), based on how risk is calculated, it is cheaper to take out an annual multi trip insurance if you’re for example taking more than 3 trips in a year each lasting one week or more. However, if you’re making 3 trips to Europe and one to the US or Canada, it is better to take out a single trip insurance for the US trip and get a multi-trip insurance for the other 3 trips.

It is best to buy single trip travel insurance as soon as you book your trip. This ensures that you’re covered for cancellation if something unexpected happens before you travel.

Pre-existing medical conditions are not usually covered automatically. However, you may be able to add cover for accepted conditions after declaring them during medical screening and the quote process.
